Volume LIV, No. 5, January, 2014

Dear Campers, Parents, staff, Alums & Friends,

Happy 2014!!  We hope you all enjoy great health and happiness in the coming year.  It will go by fast, of course, and before we know it, we’ll be writing you the 2015 January edition.  Do you make new year resolutions?  Some people do, some people don’t.  Sometimes the list is so long and so ambitious, it seems there’s just no way to keep ‘em.  So, here’s a suggestion for one simple, yet also profound resolution we challenge you to accept.  Ready?  You can resolve to accept that your choices, each and every one of them, will have consequences.  How’s that for a biggie?  Too vague?  Too philosophical?  Maybe, but consider it for a moment.  What you wear, how you eat, how physical you are in your daily life, how you talk to your friends and the adults around you (teachers, coaches, parents), how you allocate your time between homework, texting, sitting in front of a screen, how much sleep you get, where you hang out during your free time, and on and on.  These are all choices, and they all have consequences!  To us, that’s the beauty of a New Year!!  It’s perhaps the best time of the year to look forward, consider the future, and how you’d like to shape it.  Some things are inevitably going to be out of your control….that’s true for everyone.  But if you can grasp the concept that the hundreds of choices you make in any given day ALL have consequences, you can see there is opportunity to shape your own future.  And choosing to accept that and to shape your own future is the simplest and most consequential resolution we can think of.  So there you have it.  Wasn’t that easy?

Over the holidays, RICK, HOLLY, EMILY, & HANNAH JONES paid a visit to the great Northwoods and spent a few days at camp.  It was definitely the epitome of the frozen tundra, but they had a great time trekking around camp, up around the Big Lake, and all over the area.  And Rick took some awesome photos in the slideshow above.

After a little break in the action, our travel schedule will crank up again this month with a  reunion in Denver and another stop in St. Louis, as well as a reunion here in Tucson.  February will include trips to LA and Orlando.  We’ve had such a blast getting around and seeing our “old- timers” as well as some new families along the way.  And our enrollment is smokin’ hot, with first session almost completely full, and second session having openings in just a few age groups.

Welcome back to the following “old-timers” who re-enrolled last month: ELI SELZ, ERIC THOMPSON, CHARLIE WEISS, and AIDAN YERKES of Chicago, IL; SPENCER VERNIER of Deerfield, IL; DAVID TAMSKY of St. Louis, MO; JACK VAN OOYEN of Brooklyn, NY; HENRY, JOE, & SIMON LEVY of Evanston, IL; NATHAN FRIEDMAN and ETHAN GLASBERG of Glencoe, IL; CONNOR FEHRENBACH and AARON & JAKE HOFFMAN of Dallas, TX; AIDAM FELDMAN of Houston, TX; ZACH COPLAN, DANIEL FELDMAN, and JORDY MAZZA of Highland Park, IL; CAMERON HARDEGREE of Northbrook, IL; MICHAEL KAPLAN of Milwaukee, WI; SAM SCHNEIDER of River Forest, IL; MIKE SHKLYAR of Riverwoods, IL; CALICO ALVAREZ of Monterey, Mexico, and SEBASTIAN GARZA of San Pedro, Mexico.

And welcome aboard to the following new campers who will join us this summer: DONAVAN SWAN of Ft. Myers, FL; HARRISON GLASBERG of Glencoe, IL; PETER FINK of Marietta, GA; COLBY TEICH of Highland Park, IL; DEVON BIERMAN, OWEN FRENCH, ZACHARY HEARST, and JARED SETTLER of St. Louis, MO; JOEY SALIT of Mundelein, IL; and CHARLIE HERZ of Mercer Island, WA.  What a great group of guys!  You’re all in for an amazing summer!!

YO PARENTS: Now that we’ve arrived smack in the middle of winter, it is time for your winter deposits to be remitted to camp.  Many of you have already done so, which we appreciate.  We will email an invoice your way, and remember, you can pay by check to our Tucson address, or with your credit card online.  Please remember that credit card charges do incur a 2.75% surcharge.  Thanks.

Just to help you get a little organized, please use the dates below as a little reminder about some benchmarks that are coming up for camp. We also want to remind you that you'll be able to order your camp clothing and equipment from the CLOZ website store again this year. If you order too early, your camper could outgrow the cool stuff you buy before camp starts! However, if you order too late, like after May 1st, you run the risk that your order may not arrive in time for your camper to bring it to camp. We'll remind you of this in March, and the Packing list is already available on your Parent Keylog Page if you wanna have a look.

He is also his school’s vice president and will soon be trying out for the part of Mowgli in his school’s rendition of “The Jungle Book.”  Zev credits MATT RODIN for inspiring him to step out of his comfort zone and audition for the part.  Some of our Chicago guys went on winter break together, and others just bumped into each other, including JACOB & MYLES ROSENSTEIN, ARI & JORDY MAZZA, and JOSH SPAETH who had a camp encounter at the Palm Beach airport.  ADAM & BEN KRAMER were on the same flight to Puerto Rico as DAVID RINGEL.  Back in town, ARI LACKNER bumped into JARED LETWAT while Jared was heading to swim practice.
