Volume LV, No. 4, December, 2014

Dear Campers, Parents, Staff & Friends,

We hope you all stayed warm as freezing temperatures swept the country this past month.  For many of you winter is most definitely here.  The snow has been piling up at camp and by the time the bell would be ringing for flagpole, it’s already dark outside! Despite the cold weather and shorter days, we hope you all enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving and are looking forward to the rest of the holiday season.  We had a great trip to Denver to visit family and friends for our Turkey Day. While we were in the Mile High City we got to meet some prospective families too! It has been quite the month for traveling. We have been moving all over the place to visit current camp folks and prospective families on our reunion tour. A big thanks to those of you who came to our reunions in Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Kansas City and Houston, and a super big thanks to our hosts! It was great to see you, hear about what you’ve been up to, and reminisce about the warmer summer months at camp. As we get into December we will continue to get around and see you guys, so if you are in the area for one of our reunions, please come and see us!

We will have more reunions after the winter holidays!  Reunion trips are also a great time for us to meet new families, so if you know anybody that might be interested in camp please invite them to contact us, or let us know and we’ll reach out to them.  Thanks very much!

November was a very busy month on the road and back in the office. In fact we have filled several of our age groups in the first session, with limited space in the remaining open age groups.  If your son is not yet enrolled, please call us, and if there is room in his age group, we’d love to have him join us.  There is still space available in all age groups for 2nd session, although a couple are approaching their capacity as well.

Welcome back to the following “old-timers” who re-enrolled last month: BEN ELLIS of Glencoe, IL; GUS MERVIS of Carmel, IN; SPENCER VERNIER of Deerfield, IL; JACK ROBINOWITZ of Tulsa, OK; COBY and ETHAN TEICH of Highland Park, IL; ARI and SETH BERK of New Orleans, LA; JONAH GERSTEIN of Evanston, IL; JAVY VALLEJO-MCCANN of Cleveland Heights, OH, and LUIS PRIETO of Chihuahua, Mexico. Awesome!! We’re thrilled to have you guys back!!

And say hello to the following first-year campers who will join us this summer: SIMON KANOVITZ of Chicago, IL; JEREMY COHN, LUCAS LEVY, and ELI TENENBAUM of St. Louis, MO;SAM HENSON of Highland Park, IL; PARKER FLEISCHMAN-AMENT of Wilmette, IL, and ALFREDO KURI and FRANCISCO MOYANO of Puebla, Mexico. You guys are going to have the greatest summer ever!!

FOR CAMPER & PARENT TYPES: Something new for 2015.  We are adjusting our “Unplugged” policy, trying to move away from the use of screens at camp.  The biggest effect of this change is that we are no longer permitting the use of iTouch devices at camp.  We will allow music devices that meet the following criteria: 1) They do not have wi-fi capability, 2) They do not have game playing capability, and 3) They do not contain any videos on them.  All 3 criteria must be met by the device, or it is not allowed at camp.  It’s the holiday season, so if your son needs a suitable device for camp, that would make a great gift!  For complete details about our Unplugged policy, please click here.  Thank you for your cooperation.

And while we’re talking about new stuff for the summer, we have a new clothing vendor.  As we mentioned in our last newsletter, our new vendor is Everything Summer Camp, and they’re ready to go. In fact, they have extended their Black Friday sale through December 2nd.  So if you’d like to see the store and maybe take advantage of that sale, please click here

If you ordered a Memory Book from last summer, it should have arrived by now for you to enjoy. If you ordered a Memory Book but it has not arrived, please let us know and we’ll make sure it gets to you. If you’re not sure if you ordered a Memory Book, let us know and we can look in to it and get back to you. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept Memory Book orders retroactively for last summer.

FOR PARENT TYPES: This is also a friendly reminder that our payment schedule includes a 2nd deposit, which is due on or before January 15th.  That’s more than a month away but we wanted to give you advanced notice.  You can make the $1250 payment online with your credit card, if you wish, by clicking here.  If you prefer to send a check, please send it to our winter office in Tucson.  Thank you!

FLYING TO CAMP?  If your camper will be flying to camp, you can book your flights with Sojourn Travel now!  We have group rates in a few cities, but in most areas, the sooner you purchase your ticket, the lower your fare will be.  Sojourn Travel is our approved travel agent, and they coordinate all flights to and from camp.  Sojourn’s information is accessible via your Parent Keylog page, or by clicking here

FOR STAFF TYPES: It’s that time of year!  Contracts have been emailed to you recently.  With your contract there is a letter including training dates and other important information, so please be sure to read that too. We hope to hear from all of you soon!  Thanks!

Even though we just sent contracts out, we do have some great news to share with you.  Our team of Directors is all set, and looking marvelous as usual.
