Volume LV, No. 3, November, 2014

Dear Campers, Parents, Staff, Alums & Friends,

October has been a great month for us back in our “regional offices,” which really just consists of Leslie and I in Tucson and JAKE REUTER back in Chicago. Time seems to fly by here and sometimes it feels like just yesterday we were all together in our little shared corner of the North Woods. But if the coming months go by as fast as the past few have, we’ll all be together again in no time. We have been keeping busy even though we haven’t really gone anywhere. Since we last wrote we have been focused on meeting new families and kids, and it has just been fantastic! Our enrollment has been moving quickly with the first session nearly filled up and second session not far behind. This month “Old timer” RYAN COHEN released a video he has been working on since last summer for Camp for All Kids. Ryan did a fantastic job with the video, and since its release has had a wonderful response with lots of donations to the campership fund. A big thanks to all the people who have donated to this wonderful cause. We have been working on a video of our own. The 2014 Reunion Video turned out to be pretty darn phenomenal (though perhaps not as outstanding as Ryan’s). We think you’ll like it and we’re excited to share it with you.

Speaking of sharing the reunion video, we have quite the reunion tour scheduled and we hope you’ll join us when we are in your home town! We sure will be racking up the frequent flier miles with seven reunions already on the calendar and at least a couple more yet to be scheduled. Camp reunions are so much fun and we are so grateful we get the chance to see you guys in the “off-season.”

We know the holidays are coming up soon, and you may be thinking to yourself, “Self…..I think some Timberlane logo’d clothing would be a wonderful gift for my son, my spouse, and everyone on my block.”  We couldn’t agree more.  Well….here’s the thing.  Our long-standing clothing provider has closed down.  Definitely not the end of the world.  In fact, very soon we will contact you to tell you when our new store with our new provider is up and running.  We anticipate that happening by the middle of this month.  Our new provider is Everything Summer Camp, and we think you’ll be very pleased, especially with prices and service.  E.S.C. is known to fill orders within a week or less, even when things get busy.  So watch for your emails in the coming days as we finish up the new online store and launch it!

Our enrollment has been going crazy with many of the age groups in first session almost full and second session not far behind. If you haven’t had an opportunity to send in your camper’s application we encourage you to do so in the very near future even though it is only November. Yikes!

Welcome back to the “old-timers” who have re-enrolled in the past month: SAM FRISHMAN of Buffalo Grove, IL; GABE WALLON of Chicago, IL; PATRIC RAFTERY of Sparrow Bush, NY; NATE ADLER, TOMMY HOLLAND, and JESSE STOLBERG of Deerfield, IL; ALEX FREEDMAN and TYLER JACOBS of Nashville, TN; HARRISON GLASSBERG and DAVID HEIMAN of Glencoe, IL; RYAN and ZACHARY HEARST and ZACH ZLEPPER of St. Louis, MO; MASSIMO D’AGARO of Northbrook, IL; EVAN and JARED BLOOM, JORDY MAZZA, MYLERS ROSENSTEIN and LEO SCLAMBERG of Highland Park, IL; JOEY SALIT of Mundelein, IL and AARON HOFFMAN of Dallas, TX. Whoa!

We have been busy meeting families and look forward to meeting many more of the new campers who have enrolled as we embark on our reunion tour. Welcome aboard to the following campers who will be joining us for their first summer: EMERSON CORONEL of Los Angeles, CA; HARRY SMITH of Houston, TX; DILLON ARONOFF of Nashville, TN; LEO HANDELSMAN of San Diego, CA; MYLES BRODSKY and BEN GOSS of Deerfield, IL; JOSEPH LOURIE and JONAH SAMSON of St. Louis, MO and GABE FELDMAN of Highland Park, IL. In Denver, Co DAVID GLAZER has been playing tennis on his high school’s varsity team, and will start basketball season very soon. BEN SIWAK made a trip from St. Louis to Chicago with JACK KRISER to celebrate Ben’s birthday. They also ran into NOAH FOSTER there while checking out the Hawks game. Back in St. Louis, Ben then bumped into MICHAEL LYNCH at a Blues game.  Making the rounds.  Also in the Chicago area, DREW MUTCHNIK has been playing soccer and JACK JARVIS got his driver’s license. JOE BERNS, MYLES ROSENSTEIN and ANDREW KARMIN all made the basketball team at their school and NATE MILEN started playing hockey. NOAH GOLDBLATT recently made a trip to Utah with his family.  Bar Mitzvah congrats to JESSE STOLBERG who will celebrate later this month.  One day last month, totally unplanned, ARI & BEN KADEN managed to dress exactly alike on a school day morning. We think they’re sharp dressers!  In Kansas City, ZACK LISS was lucky enough to go to a World Series game to see the Royals play, and soon after made the trip in for the Chicago reunion. MARK DAVID was in the Chicago area from his home in Virginia and made it out to the reunion. In Milwaukee, MICHAEL KAPLAN is on his school’s mock trial team (after watching episodes of “Law and Order”), and played volleyball on his school team.  JOSH GLAZER is at a new school where he is playing on the basketball team.  Michael and Josh, along with AARON GLAZER, recently paid a visit to UW-Madison and hung out a bit with DUSTY COHENZACHARY HEARST went on a trip to New York with his dad for his Bar Mitzvah…congrats, Zachary!!  Here in Tucson, AIDAN FELDMAN paid us a visit all the way from Houston while on his fall break.  JACOB VINER is playing soccer in Nashville and will play in a tournament in Atlanta this month.

In Chicago, SCOTT WOLF has been acting and directing professionally. DAVID PAWLAN has been training for his high school swim team, applying to college and scored a goal in his soccer game giving him a record for the best goals- scored-to-time-played ratio. DAVID RINGEL has been working as a psychologist in training and staying busy with club water polo. David is also working with Habitat for Humanity to build a house in a local suburb. DANIEL ENGEL has just finished a season of running cross country for his high school and is now starting to train for the track team.  NICK PAPPAS recently got his driver’s license.  ADAM WASSERMAN is working on the tech crew for his school’s current production.  JACOB ROSENSTEIN works with the Special Gifts Theatre, a theater company that supports children with special needs.  Jacob’s buddy in the production has the role of “Peter Pan.”  Jacob also played on his school’s Ultimate Frisbee team and works as a lifeguard.   JAKE FEIGER is on his school’s debate team and won a recent tournament.  Way to go!  On a recent college visit to Nashville, DAVID PAWLAN caught up with CAMERON CAVALIER, IAN, MATTHEW, and TYLER JACOBS, JACOB VINER, and CONNOR O’NEILRICK JONES made the trek all the way from Indianapolis to Chicago for the big reunion early this month. AARON BERKOWITZ is in school at the University of Kansas and is hoping to work on the stage crew for an upcoming production.  JAKE HOFFMAN is in Dallas where last month he had an emergency appendectomy.  Yikes!  He’s doing just fine now.  Good times at Disney World last month as SCOTTY MAYER and JOEY PAWLAN paid a visit to JEFF MELROSE.  Leslie and I made the quick trip up to Phoenix last month to see the Zac Brown Band, and enjoyed the show with “old-timer” JOSH MCGRATH.  Josh was finishing up a contract with an aerospace engineering company in Phoenix, and preparing to move on to bigger and better things.
