Volume L, No. 5, January, 2010

Dear Campers, Parents, Staff, Alums & Friends,

Happy 2010 everyone!!  It is just amazing how fast the time flies.  We’re so excited about the year ahead.  We think there are countless good times in the future for our whole camp community as we celebrate camps’ 50th summer of fun and friendship!  We’re totally optimistic about the future, and we always love this time of year.  We’re turning the corner on the “off-season,” and soon it will be time for the home stretch that leads us into another phenomenal summer!

2009 has gotten kind of a bad rap, hasn’t it?  If you read the papers, there hasn’t been a lot of good feelings as people look back on the past year.  There are obviously plenty of reasons why people might feel that way, but from our perspective, we think there was a lot of good that came out of the year we just completed.  Let’s just list a few:

1. We got to share our summer with a great mix of wonderful people from all over the country and the world.

2. We met new friends and grew closer with friends we already had.

3. We learned so much about ourselves; what we’re capable of, how we relate to others, how we can lead and be part of a community.

4. We got to try new things like Mountain Biking and Yoga!

5. We had a brand new baby in camp! (for at least part of the summer)

6. We got to sing around a campfire.  How great is that?

7. We ate well and had the happiest, most cheerful kitchen crew in years!

8. We went to beautiful and remote places in the wilderness to enjoy paddling, hiking, and rock climbing.

9. We played hard, we played fair, and we didn’t really care what the score was.

10. We have a home in the North Woods fully equipped with a family.  How bad can the rest of it really be?

As we said, 2010 is here, and we think it’s gonna be fantastic!  Truthfully, we’re more excited about this summer than we’ve ever been!  Yeah, yeah, we say that every year, but there is something special about the 50th year, and we know you’re going to agree.  So put on that camp t-shirt (better if it smells a bit like camp still), and wear it around for a bit.  We’ve rounded the corner!

Meanwhile, winter insists on having its way up north.  So far there’s been some great snow fall, as you can see by the slide show of photos courtesy of our amazing caretaker, GREG FUS.  There’s nearly 2 feet of snow blanketing a very quiet camp.  We can use all the snow we can get, and we hope it keeps coming for a while.

YO PARENTS: We’re pretty involved in our kids’ sports programs as we know many of you may be.  We learned of this great video on You Tube (ask your kids what that is) that we recommend you have a look at.  This is a 9 year old boy summing up very creatively what a parent’s role should be while watching their kids play sports.   We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.  The link is here

We know how busy everyone gets, so we'd like you to use the dates below as a little reminder about some benchmarks that are coming up for camp. We also want to remind you that you'll be able to order your camp clothing and equipment from the CLOZ website store again this year. If you order too early, your camper could outgrow the cool stuff you buy before camp starts! However, if you order too late, like after May 1st, you run the risk that your order may not arrive in time for your camper to bring it to camp. We'll remind you of this in March, and the Packing list is already online if you wanna have a look.
